This week I’m studying Article 1 §8.8 of the Constitution. It’s called the Copyright and Patent Clause because it’s about Congress’ power to establish copyrights and patents. As a writer, I am very interested the concept of copyrights; as a human, I am very interested in living in a functional nation. In the wonderful anime Kino’s Journey, a character wanders into a country where people live in peace and freedom and are welcoming to newcomers. His companion says it seems like a perfectly normal place. He replies, “A lot of people have to work very hard to make a place normal.”
