Here & Now from Seattle Dance Collective

I saw on social media last summer that Seattle Dance Collective was working with choreographers in some kind of residency. But the summer came and went without a performance – live or virtual – and I thought maybe there wouldn’t be an SDC production this year. Then I got an announcement that their new program, Here & Now, would be available for streaming on Veteran’s Day. Just as I’ve come to expect from SDC, the program was both enjoyable and challenging, often at the same time.

A Damn Fine Release From Damfino Arts

I’ve missed the big arts organizations’ live performances in world-class spaces during the pandemic. But I’ve discovered a lot of small, innovative projects that I would have missed in normal years. Many of them might not even have happened during business as usual. One of them is “We’re All in This Together: An (almost) Post-COVID Ballet.” It’s a six-minute ballet video filmed at Vashon Center for the Arts. And it’s really beautiful.

Mystery Dancers

A few years ago at Bumbershoot, a group of Native Americans appeared near the fountain in full regalia and began dancing. I couldn’t find any reference to them in the festival schedule, and since I was chasing after two little kids that day, I didn’t get to stick around long enough to talk to any of them after they were done.

To this day I don’t know if they were official performers, indigenous flash mob (pop-up pow wow?), or protesters.

Does anyone else know?
