The Recess Appointments Clause – Constitution Article 2 §2.3

ConstitutionOn Wednesdays we study the Constitution. Most recently, I spent two weeks teasing apart Article 2 §2.2, which gives the president treaty and appointment powers. This post is publishing in mid-December, but I am writing it on the day before Thanksgiving, and let me tell you, I am truly grateful that Article 2 §2.3 looks like a much simpler clause to dissect. Article 2 §2.3 grants the president power to fill vacancies.

The Tonnage and Compact Clause – Constitution Article 1 §10.3

ConstitutionI kinda broke my rhythm for Constitutional study, but what can you do? Things slip in the summertime. But this week I’m back and ready to tackle Article 1, Section 10. The last Clause I looked at was Article 1 §10.2, which dealt with import and export duties. Constitution Article 1 §8.3, On Intercourse

The Constitution can’t defend itself, and we can’t defend it either if we don’t know what it says. That’s why I study a little bit of it each week. There are seven articles in the Constitution, and I’m still on the first one. Article One has ten sections; I’m studying Section 8, which enumerates the powers of Congress. Last week I read Article 1 §8.3, about Congress’ ability to take on debt. Today I’ll look at Clause 3, better known as the Commerce Clause. Read More

The Orders, Resolutions, and Votes Clause, Constitution Article 1.7.3

I took some time off from Constitutional study to work on the administrative side of my blog (see my pretty new URL?) and watch the entire Marvel cinematic universe while my kids were home on break.

The Constitution can’t defend itself, and we can’t defend it either if we don’t know what it says. So lets get back to the articles. Last time I learned about Article One, Section 7, Clause 2, which described how a bill becomes law. Next up: Article One, Section 7, Clause 3. Read More
