In April, I won my first grant as a certified grant writer. The grant will purchase supplies for a monthly Family Day event at the Vashon Heritage Museum. Although it was a small grant, I hope that it is a sign of good things to come. I also had a few articles published in April.

Reading Down a Crooked Road
I read 11 books in April, covering a pretty wide spectrum from an A2-level Spanish-language picture book through Bechdel’s “Fun Home,” some genre novels, a collection of Uyghur poetry, two forays into ancient literature (I finally finished the second volume of the Complete Sagas of Icelanders) and a biography of Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
Also in April, I went to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival where instead of flowers, I bought books, and of course, April also includes Independent Bookstore Day. This year we went to all the participating bookstores between Seattle’s Ship Canal and Shoreline’s City Limits, plus Ophelia’s used bookstore because we love them. That’s eight bookstores and a purchase at each one. I’m still trying to figure out how to fit them all on my shelves.
And that’s April in the books.
