Music I Liked – Gorod, Carcharodon, Kromestar
It was another busy week, but I heard a few things I liked amid all the bustle. Namely Gorod, Carcharodon, and Kromestar.
Gorod
Yay! New Gorod! I’ve liked this French tech-death band since the first time I heard them, and I was super pissed a few years ago that I only found out they were playing Seattle when I saw posts on social media after the show. But now there’s a new album out, Aethra, and not only is it great to have new Gorod to listen to, there’s a new chance they’ll come through Seattle again. Supposedly the album was released on October 19, but it’s not on bandcamp yet. Fortunately, they’ve posted the whole thing on YouTube so you can listen while you wait. I think there’s a bit more similarity to their countrymen (also beloved by me) Gojira than the last album. What do you think?
Carcharodon
As a former biologist, I love obscure technical Latin names so much more than the pseudo-Latin that most black metal bands favor. Plus, Angry Metal Guy described these great white sharks album Bukkraken as “blackgrass.”
Hey man, is that bluegrass inspired sludge rock? Well turn it up!
{Aside: I totally remembered this commercial from my childhood having muppets in it.}
Kromestar
I don’t usually listen to dubstep, but when I do…
Actually, this project doesn’t sound anything like dubstep to me. Bandcamp Daily calls Kromestar “dark dubstep,” a term they may have invented. But I hope not. Because the world could use a lot more of the moody ambience on the Against All Evil EP.
I caught a performance by your favorite Icelandic Metal band at Airwaves the other day:

Very impressive.
They do put on a great show. But I miss Gummi.
