They say there’s no such thing as a true blue rose. That may be true since the “blue” roses I’ve seen are all actually purple. Take this one for example. It’s called “Rhapsody in Blue,” which is a lovely name but in no way describes this perfectly purple bloom.
It was midday on a busy street, so it’s not like anyone was being sneaky. That implies they are allowed to empty out whatever gas this is. Still… to quote the baby elephant in Disney’s Tarzan, it looks questionable to me.
For a couple of years I kept my hair purple. I loved it, and strangely, I felt more myself with purple hair than I ever do with my natural (or any natural) hair color. But it was a lot of work and got very expensive to maintain. Purple hair fades, so even if you take good care of it, you can’t just wait for roots to grow out. At one point, I carefully photographed my purple hair each week from the day I got my hair done until the next hair appointment to document the fade. I never got around to collecting those photos and putting them into a time progression blog post. But I still love this image of my purple hair at its darkest.
This giant block of ice was placed in Occidental Park as part of a public art project several years ago. You might question whether a block of ice counts as art. But it was midsummer, so every time you walked by it looked a little different. It was so unusual to see a giant block of ice that everyone stopped to look and wondered if they could touch it. Complete strangers struck up conversations about it trying to decide if they liked it or hated it. Even the dogs were intrigued, and had kind of the same response. Is it something to lick or something to pee on?
