Music I Liked – Hypno5e, Kalmah, Pollens

I’m not very good about keeping up with new releases. I barely even noticed with music release day switched from Tuesday to Friday. But a week ago, my phone blew up with bandcamp alerts about new releases from bands I like. So I listened to Hypno5e, Kalmah, and Pollens. And I liked it.

Salmonberry

Himalayan blackberry is everywhere in the Pacific Northwest. It’s the tastiest noxious weed ever, so it’s hard to get too upset about it. But it does displace some native species that also deserve our love. Case in point: salmonberry. Probably named for orangey-pink of its berries, salmon berry is much prettier than blackberry. Maybe the berries are not as tasty, but the prickles are less vicious. And they do belong here.

Military Rulemaking – Constitution Article 1 §8.14

ConstitutionArticle 1 §8.14 of the Constitution is about Congress’ rulemaking power for military forces. It’s one of several clauses collectively referred to as “The War Power,” which is a pretty big deal.

This season Pacific Northwest Ballet launched an audience education program called Ballet 101. It was great timing for me. It coincided with my decision to give up on my hippie-dippy pure experience approach to ballet and start learning about the art form that I enjoy so much.
