Last weekend I took my daughter to see the final program in Pacific Northwest Ballet’s 2017-2018 season. It was the mixed rep “Love and Ballet.” The program began with Christopher Wheeldon’s “Tide Harmonic” and the pas de deux from “After the Rain,” which I wrote about earlier this week. The other pieces in the program were Benjamin Millepied’s “Appassionata” and Justin Peck’s “Year of the Rabbit.” There were several reasons I was excited to for this program of non-narrative ballets. Ex Post Facto Laws – Constitution Article 1 §9.3

ConstitutionOn Wednesdays we study the Constitution. I thought I’d never finish Article 1, Section 8, which lists the powers of Congress. By Any Other Name

Epimedium acuminatum 'Night Mistress'

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. This plant is called Epimedium acuminatum ‘Night Mistress’. The variety name has some style. Common names for Epimedium include barrenwort and horny goat weed, which will not do at all. Bishop’s hat and fairy wings are better. Whatever you call it, this tiny, shade-loving plant is my favorite thing in the garden.
